We are sad to announce the sudden passing of Lexie, long time Mayor of Tuwanek and friend to many. On February 02, 2010 Lexie came home late in the afternoon and lay down on her bed and went to sleep. She had been battling cancer for some time but that never stopped her from making her daily rounds to say hello, have a cookie or go for a walk.

When are Russ and Christine coming ..I so look forward to Friday
night
Lexie was adopted in November of 2002 at 3 years old and came to live in Tuwanek with her sisters Kate and Lisa at Tranquility Bay. We soon learned that Lexie was a free spirit and staying on a leash or being a homebody was just not in her repertoire. It didn’t take her long to figure out that every few days new people would show up at the cottages and soon she began her daily routine of visits to the many neighbours, guests and friends who visited in Tuwanek.
In 2006 Lexie was promoted to the head of Guest Relations at The Tuwanek Hotel. Every day she would have her breakfast at 8.00 am and want to be on the road at 8.30 starting her rounds and seeing who was up visiting for the week. She loved to spend time up at Bill and Pam Owens when they would come for the week and never missed the mailman at 11 am for a cookie. She rarely missed a Diver Barbecue and loved to visit with all the people at the beach as they geared up to go in the water. The guest books at the cottages are a testament as to how serious she did her job and people have often travelled back to Tuwanek just to see her and bring her a treat. She is written up in Web Blogs and Trip Advisor and guests from all over the world often commented how Lexie was the highlight of their vacation to the Sunshine Coast.
She loved to stop by and was often happy to hang out on the deck at Sarah and Dave’s. She loved Tuesdays as almost always came home with a marrow bone from one of the neighbours. Friday night she would be at Russ and Christine’s for steak night and often stayed for sleepovers. Her nickname was “Low Tide” as she loved to hang out at the beach and wade in the salt water. After the summer she loved to take a break and head up to the ski mountain to Big White in Kelowna, BC where she had her own ski pass and loved to ride the gondola down to the lower village and play with the kids at the outdoor skating rink. She loved the snow.
In 2007 Lexie was made honorary Mayor of Tuwanek.
For the most part she kept Tuwanek free of bears and showed the racoons a thing or two. The truth is I don’t think she really liked anything that smelled worse than her and I often said if there was ever a dog that should have been pushing a shopping cart on Hastings Street it was definitely Lexie.....
Lexie brought a spirit to Tuwanek.... she showed unconditional love for everyone
Lexie was laid to rest on Tuesday, Feb 03, 2010 high up on the mountain overlooking Tuwanek, a place she loved to be.
Special thanks to all her friends, family, guests, divers and neighbours who always watched out for her.
She will be missed my many...
