Lexie – “Longstanding Mayor of Tuwanek “
Feb 12, 2000 – Feb 02, 2010
We are sad to announce the sudden passing of Lexie, long time Mayor of Tuwanek and friend to many. On February 02, 2010 Lexie came home late in the afternoon and lay down on her bed and went to sleep. She had been battling cancer for some time but that never stopped her from making her daily rounds to say hello, have a cookie or go for a walk.

Message from the Mayor of Tuwanek....in Training

We are happy to introduce Lucy who comes to us from Chilliwack on the Farm where she was the last of a littler of 10. She has a wonderful personality and loves to go for walks so if you are in the area be sure to pop in and visit her in her current role as Guest Concierge at The Tuwanek Hotel
As the Mayor of the Tuwanek... in training, I am pleased to extend a warm
welcome to prospective new residents and visitors to our small community.
Spring and Summer are my favorite times of the year as the cottages
are full of kids to play with and there is always someone to throw
me a stick at the Beach.
As many of you know I keep a busy schedule during the summer months so I thought you might find it useful if I let you know where I will be during an average day….
6 am – Get up, have breakfast, smell the coffee and make
my way down to the beach. Stop at Wildberry Cottage and see if Norah
is up for the weekend. I hear she will bring me a treat when she visits.
11.00 am – Ensure mail delivery is on time in Tuwanek and
thank nice postman for my daily biscuit and hugs.
11 am – 12.30 pm Greet the divers at the Tuwanek
Spit on my morning walk and ensure everyone parks along side the road in the right
spots so they are not blocking traffic and emergency vehicles from
getting through. Thanks to the District of
Sechelt for putting in a portable potty at the Tuwanek Spit….now
if I could only open the door.
Make sure you are using the bear proof garbage for all your leftovers.
This is located at the main beach area near the road.
12.30pm Diver BBQ and Lunch at the Beach…a favorite pastime of mine. Lexie left me notes on the best time to attend the diver BBQ's
1.00 pm – Greet Sea Kayakers and let them know for longer term parking they can park on the access road to Lamb Bay after they unload at the spit. Did we have lunch yet?
1.30pm -3.30 pm Cottage visitation, pats and cookies all around.
3.30 pm – 5.00 pm Afternoon Siesta and traffic monitoring. Remember the speed limit in Tuwanek is 30 KM or less and you need to be careful in the curves as there are children playing near the beaches.
5.00 pm- 7.00 pm – Must be time for dinner. Who said dogs
only eat once per day....must have been mistaken. As a puppy I get to eat twice ....Now lets see,
Friday night is steak night at Russ and Christine's, but I am not yet old enough to chew bones so I am relegated to small dog cookies and treats....keeps
me trim.
7.00-10.00 pm – Keep a sharp eye out for Raccoons and even
the odd bear who comes down into Tuwanek....safely from my living room of course.
( picture below)
Please make sure
you keep your garbage locked up tight and don’t put anything
out until garbage day. Remember if you are having seafood
like crab, clams or oysters to dump your shells back in the
ocean as that keeps the smell down and the bears away from your
garbage enclosure.
10 pm – 11.00 pm …..one last evening stroll around
Tuwanek and maybe a cookie before bedtime. I’m bushed. Remember
after 10 pm is when I get my beauty sleep so please be respectful
of your neighbors and take the fun indoors as noise carries a long
way on the water.
Well, that’s about another average lazy summer day in Tuwanek. I am certain that you will find this a great place to live and will proudly call Tuwanek your home or home away from home.
If you are visiting, I hope you will remember your stay fondly and return soon.
Lucy
PS: Remember to continue the tradition started by Tuwanek's first Mayor, Lexie and bring me a cookie from Fuzzy Face?
