Tetrahedron Provincial Park

Snow shoeing at Tetrahedron Provincial ParkCabins at Tetrahedron Provincial Park Outdoor Adventures at Tetrahedron Provincial Park

Tetrahedron Provincial Park is located inland on the Sunshine Coast and is closest to the community of Tuwanek. The mountain range park was established in 1995. The access to the park is just outside of Tuwanek on the old logging road. In the winter we suggest a four wheel drive as the road is often not plowed

The park is a gem filled with spectacular scenery, wilderness is everywhere, birds singing, leaves rustling and forest smells makes the region a must visit. tetrahedron Park is a rough and rugged environment covering over 6000 hectares (15,000 acres) with 9 lakes, various marshlands, creeks, rivers, watershed and forested mountains reaching elevations of 900 - 1800 m (3000 to 6000 ft.).

Some of the main points of interest is the extensive hiking, snowshoeing and cross country trail routes in the Tetrahedron Provincial Park - Lakes include Bachelor, Margie, Mayne, Gilbert, Edwards, Chapman and McNair Lakes.

The Tetrahedron Provincial Park offers a wide variety of adventures from  cross country skiing and snow shoeing to hiking in the summer months and mountain meadow camping.

The highlight of the trip in any season is the 4 public cabins located along the trail route for overnight accommodations. Often buried in snow in the winter and in meadows of flowers  in the summer, the cabins are all booked by reservation on a first come first serve basis. The cabins are located on Bachelor Lake, Edwards Lake, McNair Lake and on Mount Steele.

The Tetrahedron Provincial Park Trail is identified along the route by the painted orange markers and trail signs. All depends on which end you start the trek from. From the Batchelor Lake Cabin end, there is a parking lot. Follow the signs and start trekking past Tannis Lake to Batchelor Lake. Ahead you can look forward to trekking to Gilbert Lake to Edwards Lake. A kilometre further from the lake is Edwards Lake cabin. The trail after Edwards Lake cabin goes right or left. A right turn wanders down to Chapman Creek and onto Chapman Lake which is under the shadows of Mt Steele, Tetrahedron Peak, and Panthers Peak. McNair Lake at foot of Panthers Peak is the location of McNair Cabin. To the left is up to Mount Steels and to the Mt. Steele cabin.

The trail is a rugged adventure with avalanches and snow hanging around sometimes until the month of May. The route can be very muddy, slippery and dangerous so always leave notice with a trusted friend on your return date just in case.

Cabins must be reserved. Contact 604-886-9864 or info@tetoutdoor.ca

Access to Tetrahedron Park:

Follow the map to Tuwanek. Just outside of Tuwanek in the Gray Creek Forest Service Road.  Turn right on the Gray Creek Forest Service Road. Continue climbing up the gravel deactivated logging road until the first major fork in the road at the top of the climb. If you go right you will end up at the Gray Creeks Waterfalls and eventually wind your way through the Angus Creek loop and back to Sechelt. Make sure you stay left and continue climbing for 12.3 km (7.4 mi.) to Tetrahedron Park parking lot.

Remember……Always leave a trip plan with a friend and make sure you have a reliable 4 wheel drive. Be respectful of wildlife and make sure you always take out any garbage that you bring into the area.  The local Bed and Breakfast’s in Tuwanek are a good source of information and maps for the area. Stop in and see Chris or Krista at Tranquility Bay or The Tuwanek Hotel.
